The Reno River Festival returns to downtown Reno this Mother’s Day Weekend, May 13th and 14th, 2017. If there is a year to celebrate the Truckee River, this is it. According to the U.S. National Weather Service, this is the wettest water year on record in Reno, and it’s only February! Our record-breaking winter will create the most exciting river conditions in the festival’s 14-year history. Believe it or not, summer is coming. And the Reno River Festival will kick it off in epic fashion.
The event will showcase more than 60 of the world’s top whitewater athletes as they take on one of the country’s top ranked whitewater courses on the circuit. Professional men, women, and juniors will compete for more than $10,000 in Freestyle, Boatercross, and Slalom categories.
“In 2015, for the first time, the Reno River Festival could not hold whitewater events due to low river flow. It’s hard to believe that less than two years later, the festival will see record water levels that will once again showcase Northern Nevada as America’s great outdoor adventure destination. These conditions will definitely keep audiences on edge once the athletes hit the water.” said Neil Horning, partner at Liquid Blue Events.
The festival is so much more than kayaking. It’s a River-Bike-Beer-Food-Adventure and Music Fest and it has something for everyone. Liquid Blue Events purchased the Reno River Festival in 2015 with the goal of revamping the event to create more outdoor activities for the public. In the first year, Liquid Blue Events introduced a highly successful Craft Beer Village to the festival. The following year, the extremely popular, family-friendly costumed bike ride, The Reno River Roll, was added.
Jess Horning, partner at Liquid Blue Events added, “After a winter like this, we know people are counting the days until warm weather hits. People are chomping at the bit to get outside and get active. The Reno River Festival kicks-off Northern Nevada’s event season and we are going all out. We can’t wait to announce all the additions and changes we are implementing at this year’s festival. We will have something new for everyone. We are anticipating this will be the largest Reno River Festival to-date.”
Over the next several weeks, Liquid Blue Events will be releasing all the details of a jam-packed Reno River Festival schedule. Some of the highlights include:
2017 will have an expansive music line-up that will showcase two of the most notable national headliners in the festival’s history. In recent years, headliners have included current top billboard artists Old Dominion, Clare Dunn, Drake White, and Jeremy McComb.
The Reno River Roll
Reno’s newest sensation returns for its second year. The Reno River Roll celebrates everything that is bicycle. A live mobile band will take participants on a tour through the streets of Reno on this casual, 7-mile costumed slow ride.
The Adventure Park will be vastly expanded for 2017 with bigger, faster, and more daring rides for all ages. Favorites including The Truckee River Zipline, Mega Rock Walls, 30′ bungee jumping, Mechanical Bull Ride, The Giant Roaring River Slide, and Human Hamster Battle Balls will also return.
The Craft Beer Village
This local favorite is expanding. The Craft Beer Village is a true outdoor bar setting overlooking both of the Truckee River whitewater channels.Participants will enjoy more than two dozen different varieties of craft beer from a wide range of breweries.
